It's a new year, everybody! (I know I should have posted about the new year earlier this week, but welcome to the life of a procrastinator :D) A brand new year. A time for a fresh beginning and a new start. A lot of people make resolutions at the beginning of a brand new year. And that's exactly why - because it's a brand new start to a brand new year. It's almost like everything resets.
The good news is that we don't have to wait until the new year to start new again. Each month is a brand new month. Every single day is a fresh, new day. No one's screwed it up yet. Although we have to deal with the past, own up to what we've done and live with the consequences, tomorrow is still a day that we can do right in.
It reminds me of the crisp, white snow outside. It blankets the frozen mud and grass underneath. Instead of having to see the dead earth all winter until it blooms again in spring - where I live- it is covered up in pure white. God's like that, too. He gives us fresh starts. First, He gives us a brand new birth in the Spirit when we come to Him and give Him our lives. Then, each day He wipes our slates clean. He forgives our sins and makes us new inside. We don't have to sit in ugly sin until we die. He bathes us in His blood that makes us pure as snow.
So, it's a new year. It's 2012. It's a new start. But even if we screw it up, there's still God's love washing us clean and making us new again.
